Video Taking Over Photo - Rise Of Social Media

Updated: Feb 25

I remember there was a time when the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, said that in coming years, there will be more videos on the Internet than photos. Even though people had their own opinion on this one but the statement seems to have come true or is close to coming true. It’s 2019 and most of the social media is covered with videos (funny, emotional, memes, cutaways, BTS, etc.)

Now, this statement is true, not just for regular social media photos, but it also has a huge significance in regards to the wedding industry. The wedding industry is huge with so many different people, brands and professionals coming together. Even though the caterers, wedding planners, and makeup artists have their own place in the industry, a wedding photographer is the one who outshines as his work is what conserves the memories of a wedding in the form of photographs.

Sudden Rise of Social Media -

For years, people have been focusing on getting photos for the wedding album. But it seems like that trend is slowly getting dissolved. With changing social media trends and the rise of apps like Tik Tok and Instagram, people are expecting more. They don’t just want still images but also motion pictures. Now, this doesn’t mean a full-fledged video of a wedding but small videos from the big event.

Videos of dancing at Haldi, Mehendi, and Bridal Entry, the trend is slowly making its way into the mainstream wedding industry. Whether you are a photographer or the one getting married, in order to keep up with the trends, you have to adapt. Videos are the big hits on social media. While a simple photo gets you around 500-1.5 k likes, a video can get you more than a lakh views and thousands of likes. This is the power of videos in 2019.

Conclusion -

The era is changing and it’s time that you do too. Photos are a thing of past. There are great for framing and making an album but videos are the ones that keep the memories alive. There’s no better way to live a memory than to watch a video of it. Videos are the new windows to the past that can help you in cherishing the memories for many years to come. So, if you are getting married, make sure that you have enough videos that capture the true essence of your wedding.
